Katie James "Black Coffee" Song Review

The Nash News | January 27, 2023

James hails from the state of Pennsylvania. At 19, she brings a younger perspective to the music she releases. She is currently studying at Lipscomb University located in Nashville, making it easier to maintain a focus on her craft. James often posts videos of her performances on social media. The social platforms also allow for James' personality to shine.

"Black Coffee" has a pop-country feel right from the beginning. Reminiscent of its name, the track is truly something one would expect to hear playing through the aroma-filled air of a coffee shop. The sound feels light and sweet, an easy tune to have as background music; there is a joyous feeling captured in the tune that is undeniable. This song proves love is all about taking leaps of faith.

James compares her intense feelings for someone to how strong black coffee can be. Through the lyrics, she is scared that it may be too much all at once exclaiming, "Every time I look at you deep in your eyes / I swear I've got no control / I know it's bound to slip so I'm covering my mouth / You say it so I don't." Love can take us to places we never thought possible, even when it's hard to say those three words.
